In a previous post, I mentioned that I would share more about my transition from the northern to southern, greener pastures. So here we go…I am fully persuaded that this move was indeed the next and best move for me, that I had heard from the Lord and this was the time. But mannnnn was it a bumpy time of shifting down that I-95 corridor!

As you may recall from a previous post, for roughly 6 months I was traveling back and forth from Maryland to North Carolina. My home was still on the market in Maryland, but I had started a new job and planted roots in the Carolinas. So each weekend, me and my road dog (literally my road dog – my 75-pound, pit/boxer mix named Sydney) would travel back up to Maryland on Saturday morning to check on the house and take care of local business as needed. On Sundays, we’d head back to the home of the 2017 NCAA champs, the UNC Tarheels, to be ready to get the grind in at the office on Monday morning.

One routine trip home to Carolina proved to be quite the experience in consternation [via google dictionary: feelings of anxiety or dismay, typically at something unexpected]. You see, the electronic highways signs so nicely placed above travelers heads were warning drivers of an impending situation…

All lanes blocked at EXIT 50

*Insert a blood curdling, horror flick inspired scream, Ahhhhhhhhh!*

‘Cuz this is the type of situation that can alter your arrival time by just 20 minutes or perhaps 4 hours. Matter of fact, anyone who has traveled the I-95 corridor up and down the eastern coast of the US, for any length of time, knows that it can basically be a crapshoot [via dictionary.com: anything unpredictable, risky, or problematical; gamble]. You can have smooth sailing and a lovely, scenic ride or it can be a parking lot – with perhaps some spots of relief that move along easily as you go.

Now passing EXIT 57…

While I am quite familiar with this route, my challenge was that I didn’t know my exit number. I was unsure which exit would veer me off of I-95 so that I could continue my journey on the new highway, I-85…but I kept moving forward on my journey, I didn’t stop.

As I traveled I saw the numbers continuing to drop…EXIT 55EXIT 54…but the big question was will my departure come before Exit 50? Because for quite some time, I’ve been warned that a huge parking lot of traffic could easily be standing in between me and arriving home at a decent time that night.

EXIT 53…

Who knew that a very familiar ride on a very familiar part of the highway could cause such consternation? As much as I wanted to be cool, calm and collected about this here situation, I just wasn’t sure what to expect. So, um, yeah, I must admit that this uncertainty threw me off of my game. And my mind starting racing…should I look for an alternate route? Should I bail on the trip altogether and just turn around and try later? Should I stop, pull over and wait? What should I do? What. Should. I.Do? While all of these were viable options, I had this interesting peace about continuing on. Although the future was unknown…I kept moving forward on my journey, I didn’t stop.

EXIT 52…

Sure enough, as soon as I got that peace, and settled myself right down into the wisdom of God, I saw the best sign I’d ever seen…EXIT 51 to I-85 towards North Carolina. Yup that’s my exit! And I veered off right in the nick of time before I reached the all lane closure. Whew!

From this experience, it registered within me that while there are times it’s best to take an alternate route…and times to stop, re-group and try later…and times to stop and wait…there are also times to keep moving full steam ahead. The key in knowing which time you are in is to ask God to provide you with the wisdom to know which option to take.

Check out the entire 8th chapter of the book of Proverbs, it spells it out so plainly. Below are some of the verses though to wet your appetite and a link to the full chapter in the Message version of the bible:

“Do you hear Lady Wisdom calling?
    Can you hear Madame Insight raising her voice?
She’s taken her stand at First and Main,
    at the busiest intersection.
Right in the city square
    where the traffic is thickest, she shouts,
“You—I’m talking to all of you,
    everyone out here on the streets!…

…Wisdom is better than all the trappings of wealth;
    nothing you could wish for holds a candle to her…

“I am Lady Wisdom, and I live next to Sanity;
    Knowledge and Discretion live just down the street…”

Oh, Lady Wisdommmmm…Madame Insightttt…where are you?

Just so that we’re clear my dear Peculiar Chix, Lady Wisdom, Madame Insight, Sanity, Knowledge and Discretion are definitely the chix I want as a part of my crew. How about you? 🙂

Love ya girlie!

At this intersection of faith, fabulosity and fun, you’ll find a space where pecularity is celebrated. It took me many years, but I finally discovered that I am indeed peculiar…and that being peculiar is amazing! I’d love for you to travel along this journey with me and celebrate this amazing gift of life that we have been provided.
You are welcome here!

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people…from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” – 1 Peter 2:9
